Yin Yoga: A Quiet Practice
Date Posted: August 28, 2014
What is Yin Yoga? Yin Yoga is the other half of a yoga practice. When talking about Yin and Yang and how they relate to yoga, Yang yoga works the muscles making them longer and stronger. Yin Yoga is a deeper practice that stretches and stimulates the connective tissues, tendons, fascia and ligaments aiming to increase circulation in the joints and improve flexibility. Yin poses are held for 3-5 minutes. If you’re use to sweating and challenging yourself through your yoga practice, Yin Yoga probably sounds well, a little boring, too slow and even too simple. But let me assure you it’s not. Yin Yoga is a deeply nourishing, complex form of yoga that has many benefits.
Here are just a few benefits of Yin Yoga:
1. Yin Yoga increases your natural rage of motion in the joints, creating ease in any style of yoga
2. Enhances stamina
3. Creates a calm, balanced mind
4. Lowers stress
5. Complements and enhances a yang style yoga practice
6. Leads to a more well-rounded yoga practice
As you can see there are many benefits to a Yin Yoga practice. If you have not tried Yin, we have two Yin classes each week, Monday evenings at 7:15 and Saturday morning at 10:30. You will feel more mobile and clear minded after a Yin Yoga class!
